Delhi Metro is a mode of convenience for almost every person living in Delhi.One cannot even imagine Delhi without it.Since it came into existence the chaos on the roads of Delhi reduced to a certain extent(not completely though).
Here are some facts on Delhi Metro that will make you proud of it.
1.The first phase of the Delhi metro was scheduled to complete in 2009, but it got completed in 2006 itself – three years ahead of its time.
2.You’ll be surprised to know that there are no dustbins in the Delhi metro premises, at any station. And yet, the platforms and metro are spotless at all times of the day. All the credit goes to the metro staff that takes special care to ensure cleanliness in the Delhi metro.
3. With more than 200 trains running, the Delhi Metro covers approximately 69,000 kilometres in a single day. The circumference of earth is just 40,075 km. Just saying.
4.DMRC is the first metro authority to start the system of smart cards and RFID tokens.
5.DMRC believes in doing everything it can to make travel easier for the visually impaired and physically handicapped. The yellow tiled pathway you see on the platforms guide the visually impaired around.
6.In a year’s time, DMRC has carried around 700 million people. That is more than the double of the population of the US.
7. DMRC is the first in the world to have started earning carbon credits for its regenerative breaking system that helps it in reducing its energy consumption by 30 per cent.
8.DMRC was recently ranked 2nd amongst 18 international metro systems.
9.And if all of that wasn’t enough, by 2016, Delhi Metro is expected to have its first driverless train. Way to go, DMRC!
10.You can recharge your metro card using a credit/debit card. Ofcourse, there are ATMs at all stations, but a direct recharge saves time.
11.DMRC made an Orphanage for street children at Tis Hazaari. It's run by an NGO called Salaam Balak Trust. It's a nicely made spacious building in an otherwise crowded and congested neighbourhood. The kids have a library, a computer room, a study room, a music room and open space for other activities.
1. 12.You can rent bicycles at 4 metro stations if you show a valid ID proof. The rent is as cheap as Rs 10 for 4 hours!
13.There's a restaurant themed on Delhi Metro in Pitampura!
It's called Metro grill, and on the outside, it looks like a metro train.

15.The deepest point of the Delhi Metro lies 45 meters down below the Rajiv Chowk station. It is the airport express, which carries 500,000 passengers per day.
16.The female announcer (in English) is voiced by Rini Simon, while the male announcer (in Hindi) is voiced by Shammi Narang.
17.The Delhi Metro is very disabled-friendly.
The lifts have braille buttons; the lift buttons are placed low for wheelchair accessibility; colored paths help people go across stations.
18.The Rajiv Chowk metro station was not named after Rajiv Gandhi but Rajiv Goswami, a politically active student who protested against the Mandal Commission job reservation recommendations.
19.The first extra-dossed bridge in India was constructed under the Delhi Metro project.
