10 years jail for Cow slaughters in Haryana

The Haryana Government is all set to introduce a Bill in the Budget session to ban beef and cow slaughter in the state.Government is also planning to trail people caught slaughtering

 cows or possessing beef under section 302,which amounts to murder.

The proposed move comes days after another BJP-ruled state-Maharashtra-imposed a five-years jail term for cow slaughters.

The proposed act is called ‘Govansh Sanrakashan and Gau Samvardhan(Cow Protection 

and Cow Conservation and Development)Bill’.

Cow slaughter remains banned in Haryana under the Punjab Prohibition of Cow-Slaughters Act which provide for five-year imprisonment for cow slaughters.

The new Bill will double the Jail term for cow slaughtering besides substantially increasing 

fine for all related offences like smuggling cows and selling Beef.

Special laboratories will be set up to ensure beef is not passed off as meat of other animals.

State’s Animal Husbandry Minister Om Prakash Dhankar said  “For the scientific test and 

analysis,government is considering to establish laboratories to differentiate beef from meat

 that of other animals.Test reports of these laboratories will be valid evidence in the court of

 law”.He also said “Our law would be more stringent than any other state in the country”

State will also provide financial and technical support to cow welfare organisations that help in taking care of sick,injured,stray and uneconomic cow.

A number of Hindu organisations have became active in Haryana in the last couple of years who completely condemns cow slaughtering terming cow as a holy figure and their mother.

They have registered numerous police complaints against those transporting cows.
