The Eighth Season of the biggest cricket league in the world Indian Premier League is about to begin.It is the most watched Cricket tournament in the world with followers spread worldwide.
It currently consists of Eight teams named after the cities and owned by Franchises.It generally takes place between April and May.
It was started in 2008 by BCCI.
The current champions are the Kolkata Knight Riders owned by Shahrukh Khan which won the 2014 season by beating Kings X1 Punjab.
History
IPL was started in 2008 when the banned league Indian Cricket League was operational.
First 5 seasons were sponsored by DLF. Sony has earned the rights of Television Broadcasting for 10 years.It became the First cricket league to be broadcasted live on Youtube in 2010.
All the seasons except the Second season has taken place in India.Second season took place in South Africa due to 13th General elections in the country.

Controversies
IPL has always been surrounded by controversies since it came into existence.Many
questions its ability to turn players money minded as they are tempted towards money and can neglect national services.
The fifth season of the IPL was the most controversial with many players getting indulge in
spot fixing activities as shown by a sting done by a private news channel.
